Animal Welfare
The cattle are kept to the highest welfare standards; comfortable, healthy cattle lead to top quality consistent meat. Some of the key features we go through to ensure these standards are met include -
- Precise feeding.
- Only using straw bedding.
- Topping it up every other day and cleaning out monthly.
- Grouping cattle into even batches where they stay until sold.
- Designing sheds around the cattle to ensure maximum ventilation and light.
- Walking through the cattle twice a day.
- Hospital pens, so any unwell animals can be isolated.
- Custom designed handing system and loading area.
- Stringent animal health plan.
- High biology security.
The farm practices are also in-line with DEFRA's five freedoms-
- Freedom from hunger and thirst.
- Freedom from discomfort.
- Freedom from pain, injury or disease.
- Freedom to express normal behaviour.
- Freedom from fear and distress.
