Animal Welfare

The cattle are kept to the highest welfare standards; comfortable, healthy cattle lead to top quality consistent meat. Some of the key features we go through to ensure these standards are met include  -

  • Precise feeding.
  • Only using straw bedding.
  • Topping it up every other day and cleaning out monthly.
  • Grouping cattle into even batches where they stay until sold.
  • Designing sheds around the cattle to ensure maximum ventilation and light.
  • Walking through the cattle twice a day.
  • Hospital pens, so any unwell animals can be isolated.
  • Custom designed handing system and loading area.
  • Stringent animal health plan.
  • High biology security.

The farm practices are also in-line with DEFRA's five freedoms-

  • Freedom from hunger and thirst.
  • Freedom from discomfort.
  • Freedom from pain, injury or disease.
  • Freedom to express normal behaviour.
  • Freedom from fear and distress.
